This carefully crafted ebook: “British Mysteries Collection: 14 Novels & 70+ Short Stories (Challenge, The Island of Terror, The Female of the Species, The Horror At Staveley Grange, Bulldog Drummond, Out of the Blue and more)” is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Herman Cyril McNeile (1888-1937) commonly known as H. C. McNeile or Sapper, was a British soldier and author. Drawing on his experiences in the trenches during the First World War, he started writing short stories and getting them published in the Daily Mail. After the war McNeile left the army and continued writing, although he changed from war stories to thrillers. In 1920 he published Bulldog Drummond, whose eponymous hero became his best-known creation. The character was based on McNeile himself, on his friend Gerard Fairlie and on English gentlemen generally. Drummond is a First World War veteran, brutalised by his experiences in the trenches and bored with his post-war lifestyle. He publishes an advertisement looking for adventure, and soon finds himself embroiled in a series of exploits, many of which involve Carl Peterson—who becomes his nemesis—and Peterson's mistress, the femme fatale Irma. McNeile interspersed his Drummond work with other detective novels and story collections that included two characters who appeared as protagonists in their own works, Jim Maitland and Ronald Standish. H. C. McNeile thrillers are a continuation of his war stories, with upper class Englishmen defending England from foreigners plotting against it. Content: Jim Maitland The Island of Terror Bulldog Drummond The Black Gang The Third Round The Final Count The Female of the Species Temple Tower The Return of Bulldog Drummond Knock-Out Bulldog Drummond at Bay Challenge The Horror At Staveley Grange Tiny Carteret Ronald Standish Men, Women and Guns The Saving Clause Out of the Blue The Finger of Fate

First published in 1990, Brighton Behind the Front was originally produced in collaboration with the now defunct Lewis Cohen Urban Studies Centre, in the same series as Backyard Brighton and Back Street Brighton. It brings together a collection of Brighton wartime reminiscences and documents how ordinary people were affected by the war. This was a challenging time in British history, giving rise to moving accounts of individual lives set against a society undergoing profound changes. Using personal recollections, contemporary photographs, letters, a logbook and diaries, Brighton Behind the Front vividly portrays what it was like to live in this south coast town during the Second World War.

Join Eska, a girl who breaks free from a cursed music box, and Flint, a boy whose inventions could change the fate of Erkenwald forever, as they journey to the Never Cliffs and beyond in search of an ancient, almost forgotten, song with the power to force the Ice Queen back. This book is a collection of short stories designed to be used for reading practice and entertainment for home and classroom readers. It consists of 50 mostly fictional stories in several different interest areas. The areas include adults, boys and girls, animals, strange happenings, directions, lifelike objects, humor, and others. Many of these stories contain an introduction of factual information followed by a fictional story. In selected stories, there is another story following it that is related to it in some way. I have been associated with education most of my life, from being a teacher, a counselor, and a sales representative for a company whose main business was selling to the education market. Then for many years that followed, I have worked as a developer of educational software in reading, writing, and math. My favorite part of developing was always the creation of new stories, and that is why I decided to put this new book together.
