The European Commission emphasizes, in its Fifth Research Framework, the “. . . emerging generic dependability requirements in the information society, stemming both from the ubiquity and volume of embedded and networked systems and services as well as from the global and complex nature of large scale information and communication infrastructures, from citizens, administrations and business in terms of technologies, tools, systems, applications and services". The series of Conference on Computer Safety, Reliability, and Security (Safecomp) contributes to satisfy these requirements by reviewing the state of the art, experiences, and new trends in the relevant scientific and industrial areas. Safecomp is intended to be a platform for technology transfer among academia, industry, and research institutions, providing the opportunity for exchange of ideas, opinions, and visions among experts. This year Safecomp celebrates the 20th anniversary, its first Conference having been organized in Stuttgart by EWICS (European Workshop on Industrial Computer Systems) in 1979, and we hope these Proceedings will contribute to the celebration by supporting Safecomp aims. The Proceedings include the 25 papers that have been presented orally at the Conference and the full version of the 14 papers that have been presented as posters, all of which were selected from 76 submissions. Papers almost uniformly take up Safecomp topics, dealing with the issues of Safety Assessment and Human Factors, Verification and Validation, Design for Safety, Formal Methods, and Security.

The International Symposium on Experimental Robotics (ISER) is a series of bi-annual meetings which are organized in a rotating fashion around North America, Europe and Asia/Oceania. The goal of ISER is to provide a forum for research in robotics that focuses on novelty of theoretical contributions validated by experimental results. The meetings are conceived to bring together, in a small group setting, researchers from around the world who are in the forefront of experimental robotics research. This unique reference presents the latest advances across the various fields of robotics, with ideas that are not only conceived conceptually but also explored experimentally. It collects robotics contributions on the current developments and new directions in the field of experimental robotics, which are based on the papers presented at the 14th ISER held on June 15-18, 2014 in Marrakech and Essaouira, Morocco. This present fourteenth edition of Experimental Robotics edited by M. Ani Hsieh, Oussama Khatib, and Vijay Kumar offers a collection of a broad range of topics in field and human-ce ntered robotics.

The volume presents a collection of 44 peer-reviewed articles from the First International Conference on Intelligent Systems in Production Engineering and Maintenance (ISPEM 2017). ISPEM 2017 was organized by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Wrocław University of Science and Technology and was held in Wrocław (Poland) on 28–29 September 2017. The main topics of the conference included the possibility of using widely understood intelligent methods in production engineering. New solutions for innovative plants, research results and case studies taking into account advances in production and maintenance from the point of view of Industry 4.0 were presented and discussed—with special attention paid to applications of intelligent systems, methods and tools in production engineering, maintenance, logistics, quality management, information systems, and product development. The volume is divided into two parts: 1. Intelligent Systems in Production Engineering 2. Intelligent Systems in Maintenance This book is an excellent reference resource for scientists in the field of manufacturing engineering and for top managers in production enterprises.

Going beyond the traditional field of robotics to include other mobile vehicles, Mobile Intelligent Autonomous Systems describes important theoretical concepts, techniques, approaches, and applications that can be used to build truly mobile intelligent autonomous systems (MIAS). It offers a comprehensive treatment of robotics and MIAS, as well as related disciplines, helping readers understand the subject from a system-theoretic and practical point of view. Organized into three sections, the book progresses from conceptual foundations to MIAS and robotics systems and then examines allied technologies. With an emphasis on recent research and developments, experts from various fields cover key aspects of this rapidly emerging area, including: Path and motion planning Obstacle avoidance in a dynamic environment Direct biological-brain control of a mobile robot Sensor and image data fusion Autonomous decision making and behavior modeling in robots Hydro-MiNa robot technology Adaptive algorithms for smart antennas Control methods for autonomous micro-air vehicles Neuro-fuzzy fault-tolerant auto-landing for aircraft H-infinity filter based estimation for simultaneous localization and mapping Where relevant, concepts and theories are illustrated with block/flow diagrams and numerical simulations in MATLAB®. An integrated exploration of the theory and practice of MIAS and robotics, this is a valuable reference and recipe book for research and industry.
