Inexperienced software developers - such as fresh graduates - shape the future of software engineering as a practice. Supporting these novice developers in becoming high quality engineers is a key objective of our engineering community. Yet, inexperienced developers have considerable trouble in applying the fundamentals of systematic software testing in industrial settings. Gaps in testing skills arise from inherent attributes of systematic testing itself and environmental attributes, such as the educational setting in universities. Frustrated, practitioners have long since devised cost intensive workarounds. In this thesis, this problem situation is qualitatively analyzed in great detail, leveraging insights from three Grounded Theory studies. Employing Everett M. Rogers' 'Theory of the Diffusion of Innovation', strategic improvements to the onboarding situation are presented. Lastly, tool support for the strategies developed in this thesis is presented and evaluated.

Have you ever talked to a dog. Not just the "Who's a good boy? Spike's a good boy" stuff, but really talked? About your struggles, your heartaches, your joys—baring your soul to a canine friend? If you have, chances are it made you feel free to say whatever you wanted, without the burden of justifying your position, sounding witty, or telling an entertaining story. Free to take your time, without fear of judgment or recrimination. Even if you can't have a real discussion, when compared to conversations with humans you'd probably admit that dogs are the better communicators—paws down. Why? Because even though they don't speak our language, they really listen. It's time to take a fresh look at listening and we need go no further than the furry best friend at our feet. Dogs don't interrupt us, finish our sentences, offer advice, try to top our stories, or text us instead of talking to us. Dogs pay extremely close attention to us; they study our facial expressions, our body language, our eye movements, and our voice patterns. Dogs do not just listen with their ears, they listen with their entire being. True listening can enhance every relationship in one's life, and can transform broken associations and inject new life into business and social interactions. It is the magic ingredient that forges real connections with others. People want good listeners in their inner circle, they want do business with them, they trust them and will share critical information with them. That means the person who masters this skill has enormous advantages, both in business and in his or her personal life. By listening like a dog, readers will find renewed connection and a deeper sense of compassion, companionship and understanding with the people in their lives.

Six-year-old Melanie is weirder and naughtier than you ever were, and now she's passing her wealth of wacky wisdom on to her little sister, Lillian. Your mom would never let you play with them, but you sure would have wanted to; Melanie is the ultimate bad influence.

Queen Belacane is dying. As a last act, she inscribes a book of counsels, or princes mirror, to guide her newborn son on his lifes path. The Queens counsels illuminate the way of futuwwa, a tradition of mystical chivalry traced to the Prophet Abraham. If the Prince would unite the chivalries of both Christendom and Islam and attain the Cup Mixed with Camphor, he must fulfil the pillars of his faith, and uphold the universal virtues of wisdom, courage, temperance, and generosity.

All over Europe and the World communication scientists reflect questions on trust in journalism and media. A large scale of analysis and research gives new perspectives of reasons, impacts and consequences of trust or mistrust in media and journalism. This anthology provides an overview on empirical research to trust in media and journalism, new perspectives, methodological approaches and current results, discussed among communication scientists at European and international scientific conferences.

The scholarly purpose of the volume is to restate and describe the historical reception of John Duns Scotus? meta-physics, which, by taking the real concept of ?being as being? as the first object of first philosophy, laid the ground-work for what scholars have called ?the second beginning of metaphysics? in Western philosophy. Scotus outlined a theory of transcendental concepts that includes an analysis of the concept of being and its prop-erties, and a general analysis of modalities and intrinsic modes, paving the way for a view of metaphysics as a sci-ence of ?possible being.? From the fourteenth to the eighteenth century Scotists invented and developed special concepts that could embrace both real being and the being of reason. The investigation of the metaphysics of the transcendentals by subsequent thinkers who were guided by Scotus is the central focus of the present collective book.

This book provides a formal analysis of alternative, non-relational data models and storage mechanisms and gives a decent overview of non-SQL query languages. It describes a perspective beyond SQL and relational database management systems and thus covers the theoretical background of modern data management. It also helps to take informed decisions about what database systems to use.

As the state-of-the-art imaging technologies became more and more advanced, yielding scientific data at unprecedented detail and volume, the need to process and interpret all the data has made image processing and computer vision increasingly important. Sources of data that have to be routinely dealt with today's applications include video transmission, wireless communication, automatic fingerprint processing, massive databanks, non-weary and accurate automatic airport screening, robust night vision, just to name a few. Multidisciplinary inputs from other disciplines such as physics, computational neuroscience, cognitive science, mathematics, and biology will have a fundamental impact in the progress of imaging and vision sciences. One of the advantages of the study of biological organisms is to devise very different type of computational paradigms by implementing a neural network with a high degree of local connectivity. This is a comprehensive and rigorous reference in the area of biologically motivated vision sensors. The study of biologically visual systems can be considered as a two way avenue. On the one hand, biological organisms can provide a source of inspiration for new computational efficient and robust vision models and on the other hand machine vision approaches can provide new insights for understanding biological visual systems. Along the different chapters, this book covers a wide range of topics from fundamental to more specialized topics, including visual analysis based on a computational level, hardware implementation, and the design of new more advanced vision sensors. The last two sections of the book provide an overview of a few representative applications and current state of the art of the research in this area. This makes it a valuable book for graduate, Master, PhD students and also researchers in the field.
