Finding answers to your breastfeeding questions can be frustrating to say the least. When you look online, less than half of the websites that contain breastfeeding information are accurate. Instead you can refer to this book whenever you have a question; it is your Lactation Consultant in a cute little package. Regardless if you are having problems now, or if you are simply gaining knowledge of potential breastfeeding pitfalls, this is the book for you. We will talk about what to expect from breastfeeding, and what to do if issues arise. The great thing about breastfeeding is that there is a solution to almost every problem. In most cases we can trick the body into doing what we want it to do, and we can observe our babies behavior to give us insight on what the problem is. Did you know? #1: Most breastfeeding problems occur in the first two weeks of a child’s life, so lots of new moms just throw in the towel. That's why your focus in the beginning is to just make it past the first 2 weeks. #2: There is a chance you will not make enough milk to completely feed your baby with breast milk alone. This is also a big reason why give up breastfeeding altogether. If you have to supplement with some formula, that is okay! DO NOT beat yourself up about it! One drop of breastmilk contains one million white blood cells, so some is better than none. If you don’t make enough milk, if you need to go back to work at 6 weeks and can’t afford a pump, or if you are just too overwhelmed, that’s ok! If your baby gets at least 1 teaspoon of breastmilk per day, your baby will be protected with the antibodies and those bacteria-eating cells that are so important to a developing immune system. Pretend you just qualified to be in the Breastfeeding Olympics, and you have some fierce competition. Instead of other athletes, your competition is hormonal imbalances, breast anatomy, insufficient milk removal, yeast, bacteria, and good old-fashioned pain. I am not telling you to go to the store and stock up on formula, I just want you to go into this challenge with determination, but knowing that you may have some setbacks. Just because you get knocked down doesn’t mean you have to give up, ladies! Studies show that although over 80% of women start breastfeeding in the hospital, only 12% of babies in the US are getting any breastmilk at 6 months of age. Based on my patients' feedback, the decline is not due to lack of effort but the anxiety caused by breastfeeding problems or the concern that the baby is not getting enough. Most of the 3,000+ patients I have seen have told me they would have given up if it weren't for the help they received at Milkalicious. Now, we are bringing Milkalicious to you, with the ultimate breastfeeding guide, "I Make Milk, What's Your Superpower".

With more than 1.3 million video views each month and over fifty-two million total views on her YouTube channel, Howland’s (a.k.a. Mama Natural) funny but informational videos have empowered millions of women to embrace natural pregnancy and parenting. Now Howland is turning to the page, offering up the first week-by-week natural pregnancy book for soon-to-be moms. For the last half-century, control over childbirth has been in favor of doctors. Many pregnancy guidebooks are conventional, fear-based, and written by male physicians deeply entrenched in the old-school medical model of birth. But change is underway. A groundswell of women are taking back their pregnancy and childbirth and embracing a natural way. Genevieve Howland, the woman behind the enormously popular Mama Natural blog and YouTube channel, has created an inspiring, fun, and informative guide that demystifies natural pregnancy and walks mom through the process one week at a time. The Mama Natural’s Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth is the modern (and yet ancient) approach to pregnancy and childbirth. “Natural” recognizes that pregnancy and birth are normal, and that having a baby is a wondrous biological process and rite of passage—not a medical condition. This book draws upon the latest research showing how beneficial and life-changing natural birth is for both babies and moms. Full of weekly advice and tips for a healthy pregnancy, Howland details vital nutrition to take, natural remedies for common and troublesome symptoms, as well as the appropriate (and inappropriate) use of interventions. Peppered throughout are positive birth and pregnancy stories from women of all backgrounds (and all stages of their natural journey) along with advice and insights from a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) plus a Registered Nurse (RN), doula, and lactation consultant. Encouraging, well-researched, and fun, The Mama Natural’s Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth will be an essential companion for women everywhere to embrace natural pregnancy and reap all the benefits for both baby and mama.

What’s the first thing a woman does when she thinks she might be pregnant? She Googles. And it goes downhill from there. While the internet is full of calming and cheerily supportive articles, it’s also littered with hyper-judgmental message boards and heaps of contradictory and scolding information. Babies on Boards takes parents through the trenches of new parenting, warning readers of the pleasures and perils of mommy blogs, new parent groups, self-described “lactivists,” sleep fascists, incessant trend pieces on working versus non-working mothers, and the place where free time and self-esteem goes to die: Pinterest (back away from the hand-made flower headbands for baby!). JJ Keith interweaves discussions of what “it takes a village” really means (hint: a lot of unwanted advice from elderly strangers who may have grown up in actual villages) and a take-down of the rising “make your own baby food” movement (just mush a banana with a fork!) with laugh-out-loud observations about the many mistakes she made as a frantic new mother with too much access to high speed internet and a lot of questions. Keith cuts to the truth—whether it’s about “perfect” births, parenting gurus, the growing tide of vaccine rejecters, the joy of blanketing Facebook with baby pics, or germophobia—to move conversations about parenting away from experts espousing blanket truths to amateurs relishing in what a big, messy pile of delight and trauma having a baby is. It turns out those little buggers are more durable and fun than we think they are!

Rafter can strike matches on polyester, and Benny can turn his innie belly button into an outie. Along with Rafter's algebra class nemesis, Juanita Johnson, Rafter and Benny realize that what they thought they knew about superheroes and supervillains may be all wrong. And it's up to the three of them to put asides their differences and make things right. They may not have great powers, but together, they're almost super.

Is India ready for superpower status or too far behind China to ever catch up? In his career as one of India's leading journalists and entrepreneurs, Raghav Bahl has often faced this question, and many others, from bewildered visitors: * Why are Indian regulations so weak and confusing? * Why is your foreign investment policy so restrictive? * How come your hotels are world class, but the roads leading to them are so potholed? * Why don't you lower your voice when you make fun of your politicians? * Why do you control the price of oil and cable TV? Clearly there's a huge difference in how India and its arch-rival China work on the ground. China is spectacularly effective in building infrastructure and is now reinvesting almost half its GDP. Meanwhile, India is still a "promising" economy: more than half its GDP is consumed by its billion-plus people, yet India has some unique advantages: Half its population is under twenty-five, giving it a strong demographic edge; 350 million Indians understand English, making it the largest English-speaking country in the world; and it's the world's largest democracy. In the race to superpower status, who is more likely to win: China's hare or India's tortoise? Bahl argues that the winner might not be determined by who is investing more and growing faster today but by something more intangible: who has superior innovative skills and more entrepreneurial savvy. He notes that China and India were both quick to recover from the financial crisis, but China's rebound was accompanied by huge debt and deflation, with weak demand. India's turnaround was sturdier, with lower debt and modest inflation. So India's GDP grew twice as fast as China's for a few quarters-the first time that had happened in nearly three decades. And in contrast to China's Yuan, which is pummeled for being artificially undervalued, India's rupee largely floats against world currencies. In the end, it might come down to one deciding factor: can India fix its governance before China repairs its politics? With insights into the two countries' histories, politics, economies and cultures, this is a well-written, fully documented, comprehensive account of the race to become the next global superpower. For anyone looking to understand China, India and the future of the world economy, this is the book to read.

When did making babies get to be so hard? Infertility is on the rise globally, affecting as many as one in six couples. But instead of considering diet and lifestyle factors, doctors pump their patients full of expensive and invasive fertility treatments. Once pregnant, women just accept that carrying a baby will be the gassy, swollen, irritable, sleepless nightmare that has become the new normal—and then assume that new motherhood will be just as challenging, from breastfeeding woes to screaming fits. It doesn't have to be that way. In The Kind Mama, Alicia Silverstone has created a comprehensive and practical guide empowering women to take charge of their fertility, pregnancy, and first 6 months with baby. Drawing on her own experience, as well as that of obstetricians, midwives, nutritionists, holistic health counselors, and others, Silverstone offers advice on getting one's "baby house" in order through nutrient-rocking foods that heal and nourish, and, once pregnant, gentle ways to boost comfort, energy, and health during each trimester. She helps readers navigate everything from prenatal testing and birth plans to successful breastfeeding and creating a supportive "baby nest." The result is an authoritative, one-stop guide that empowers women to trust their instincts during this vital milestone, while helping them embark on a healthy and more vibrant path to motherhood.
