Der wichtigste Beleg hierfür ist der vorliegende Aufsatz von 1934. In ihm handelt Fromm zunächst von der Rezeption der Mutterrechtstheorie. Sein besonderes Interesse gilt der Funktion der Sexualität im Gesellschaftsgefüge. Auch fragt er, welche Konsequenzen sich aus der Mutterrechtsforschung für das Verständnis der sozialen Struktur der Gegenwart und ihrer Wandlungen ergeben. Interessant ist auch, wie er den patrizentrischen und matrizentrischen Komplex im Protestantismus und Katholizismus wiederfindet.
