Teams are everywhere - business, industry, schools, hospitals and government. There are executive, management and cross-functional teams, as well as teams formed for specific tasks and projects. But when a team can succeed or fail on the quality and effectiveness of its leader, everyone will have a view on the leadership qualities that are most important. So what makes a successful team? And what can leaders do to ensure that their teams collaborate effectively and are committed to the right goals? This new title looks at all aspects of teamwork, with a particular focus on the role of the leader, and examines some of the most common challenges facing both teams and leaders, including: interpersonal challenges; working in a global context; different roles in different teams; multicultural teams; and coaching and developing team members. Written by experienced academics and practitioners, the book incorporates results from specially-commissioned survey on team-working, organized by Ashridge Business School, but also uses the authors' access to leaders and team members working in sport, the military, business and the charity sector.

The primary purpose of this study was to provide an analysis of the effectiveness of leadership through the interpersonal relationship between a team leader and a team. This research paper attempted to define "how" leaders create and handle effective teams. Specifically, this study was focused on UXO teams in a UXO environment performing a UXO clearance project still in progress. It was the aim of this study to provide information that will be beneficial to team leaders and will contribute to improvement of UXO team leadership techniques. The findings identified in this study provide some empirical support and insight into the strengths and weaknesses found in one case study. The findings revealed positive correlation in many of the researched areas within each hypothesis in the relationships and perceptions between team leaders and team members. However, the findings also indicated considerable negative correlation within one of the dimensions, the demonstration of sufficient technical know-how, which was actually expected to be one of the strongest. Overall it is concluded that this research has made an important contribution towards defining: how a leader creates and handles an effective unexploded ordnance team. The findings of this study should be beneficial to team leaders and contribute to improvement of UXO team leadership techniques.

True leadership has always been more difficult to maintain in challenging times, but the unique stressors facing organisations throughout the world today call for renewed attention to what constitutes truly positive leadership. In AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP EFFECTIVENESS for Individuals and Teams Tineke Wulffers combines the best of academic research, with years of personal experience working with leaders and teams, to offer a practical guide on how to develop this type of leadership effectiveness in real life. This book is divided up as follows: Part I – Definition and impact of authentic leadership – considers the need for authentic leadership, gives an overview of what is generally understood by Authentic Leadership. It also focuses on the impact of leadership authenticity on inter-relational trust, on individual and team authentic leadership effectiveness. Part II – Development of authentic leadership – forms the crux of this book. As the development of authentic leadership requires different considerations to what is mostly espoused in the field of leadership development, considerations and criteria for AL development and AL programmes are discussed. This is followed by a high-level and detailed overview of this specific individual and team ALE programme, which might well be a first. Finally, part II concludes with a detailed, followed by two high-level case studies of the effects of the ALE programme under discussion. Part III – Well-known examples of leaders through the lens of AL – even though AL programmes have not really been available before, such leadership can be developed by means of introspection and commitment to further development during a lifetime of life experiences and work episodes.
