Before Martha started this book, she felt that her writing was self-therapeutic for her struggles. After she wrote about her experiences in college and all of the lessons that she learned, she wanted to share them with others who were facing similar hardships. This book is a collection of Martha’s experiences and observations from childhood until her first year after college graduation. It contains life lessons and personal opinions on controversial topics, such as relationships, sex, religion, pop culture, and human values. The pieces are not in chronological order. They vary according to Martha’s mentality when she wrote them. The biggest message that she wants her readers to get out of this book is that life can be really hard, but the challenges ultimately lead to strength, humility, and a greater appreciation for every blessing.

One fall day, I found myself in the car holding on to a squirmy, very adorable puppy. We were taking her home. From the moment we picked her up, she became my mentor, teaching me life lessons without ever trying. She loved the world and all of us. She became a wonderful traveler, and over time, she became socialized. She taught me patience, got me through some rough times, showed me how to be playful, and strengthened me spiritually. I began to record some of our experiences together. Those reflections became this book. The book ends with her first birthday and our celebration of Dog who opened insights to God.

Shaun White is not just the greatest and most famous snowboarder in the world, he's a cultural phenomenon known for an unstoppable drive to succeed. When he's not snowboarding, he's skateboarding. When he's not doing either of those, he's playing with his band or running the Air & Style festival or flipping houses. Since he was born with a potentially fatal heart defect, and cautioned to take it easy, White has been unable to stay still, defying odds and breaking records. This is not a run-of-the-mill memoir. Shaun has never lived life by anyone else's formula or accepted anyone else’s rules. Now, he is ready to share every major lesson he's learned from the dominating career and improbable life that turned so-called extreme sports into mainstream sports. He writes candidly about his early days traveling the world in a van with his family, what it took to be the youngest competitor at event after event, how he went from prodigy to Olympic gold medalist, and the ensuing struggles along the way that almost made him give up snowboarding. He’ll show readers across all field—whether they are athletes, entrepreneurs, or creatives—the counter-intuitive principles that enabled him to overcome the odds and win, over and over, often at great personal cost. This is a book about the will to be the greatest, how to push yourself to the farthest limits of your abilities, and disprove anyone who tells you that you can’t.

Selfish Ambitions :The need to get ahead no matter what the cost. Only thing is, it never works out. It is short lived. Most times you try to get in where you don’t fit in. You sneak, you lie, you cheat, you steal, and in some cases you kill. First let me say that there is nothing wrong with wanting to get ahead, wanting to be ahead, or wanting to go ahead. But when you hold back on people, or step on people to get ahead, you are thinking only about self. Most times it’s only for a moment in time that you are able to obtain the status, then it’s gone. But the Damage goes on, the damage that you caused. This is a wicked minded person. They will blame you for their down fall, and never thank you for your assistance (because they were using you). They feel you did nothing to help them, but are in fact blocking their way. The sad thing about these people is that they think they are really successful! Sorry to say, they believe a lie These people will turn against you, turn their back on you, or even help you fall. (remember they are selfish). They will pretend they love you. Pretend to be your friend. You are only a means to an end to them. The only way to reach them or defeat them, if you must deal with them, is with the Fruits of The Spirit.
