Why would the pastor of a large and successful church risk everything in a quest to find a richer, deeper, fuller Christianity? In Water To Wine Brian Zahnd tells his story of disenchantment with pop Christianity and his search for a more substantive faith. "I was halfway to ninety-midway through life-and I had reached a full-blown crisis. Call it garden variety mid-life crisis if you want, but it was something more. You might say it was a theological crisis, though that makes it sound too cerebral. The unease I felt came from a deeper place than a mental file labeled "theology." I was wrestling with the uneasy feeling that the faith I had built my life around was somehow deficient. Not wrong, but lacking. It seemed watery, weak. In my most honest moments I couldn't help but notice that the faith I knew seemed to lack the kind of robust authenticity that made Jesus so fascinating. And I had always been utterly fascinated by Jesus. What I knew was that the Jesus I believed in warranted a better Christianity than what I was familiar with. I was in Cana and the wine had run out. I needed Jesus to perform a miracle." -Water To Wine

The captivating story of an ordinary bartender who's changing the world through clean water. Doc Hendley never set out to be a hero. In 2004, Hendley-a small- town bartender- launched a series of wine-tasting events to raise funds for clean-water projects and to bring awareness to the world's freshwater crisis. He planned to donate the proceeds through traditional channels, but instead found himself traveling to one of the world's most dangerous hot spots: Darfur, Sudan. There, Doc witnessed a government-sponsored genocide where the number-one weapon wasn't bullets-it was water. The Janjaweed terrorists had figured out that shooting up a bladder containing 10,000 liters of water, or dumping rotting corpses into a primary water source is remarkably efficient for the purposes of mass extermination. With limited funds, Doc realized that he couldn't build new wells costing $10,000 a pop, but he could hire local workers to restore a damaged well for a mere $50 each. He'd found his mission. Today, Doc and Wine to Water continue to help stricken peoples repair and maintain water- containment systems in places like Darfur, Cambodia, Uganda, and Haiti. Doc is a regular, rough-and-tumble guy who loves booze, music, and his Harley- but he also wanted to help. Wine to Water is a gripping story about braving tribal warfare and natural disasters and encountering fascinating characters in far-flung regions of the world. It is also an authoritative account of a global crisis and an inspirational tale that proves how ordinary people can improve the world.

As a young mum, the most frustrating thing that I had to deal with was reading books that told me to do this or that and my children would grow up into real, well adjusted adults. The trouble was, when I tried any of these things, my children reacted very differently to what books said would happen. I declared that I would never give advice until my grandchildren told me I had done a good job, and even then I would be very reluctant. When we become Christians, God changes us in much the same way that He turned the water in wine at the wedding at Cana. The improvement of us, however, takes a lifetime. This book shares some of the ways that God worked that improvement in my life. If there is one thing that God has taught me, it is that we are all made as individuals in His image and He will teach all of us differently. He does, however, expect all of us to share His blessings with whoever we can. I was challenged by my minister in June 2011 to start writing these short stories for the church notice sheet. The result was this collection. As I look back, I am surprised to see just what God had done. I hope by sharing how God has used many of the circumstances in my life to teach me what He wanted me to learn, that I can be an encouragement to others. Please enjoy my journey.

The artwork of the Master of Cabestany served as the inspiration and skeleton of this novel. As one of the great sculptors during the twelfth century in Catalonia (southern France and northeastern Spain), the Master of Cabestany is well known today, but nothing is known of his life. Heaven Walker is the fictional account of his life and times. The location of the novel on the Costa Brava (Spain) and in Roussillon (France) is exciting and real. The sites and cities exist today. The time, the twelfth century, was an essential period in the modernization of Europe. Twelfth century sculpture ranks with the greatest sculpture of all time. It was a time of conflict between the nobility, church, and growing bourgeoisie. Most importantly, the story is exciting, rapidly paced adventure, filled with intrigue and romance, and addictive from page one to the denouement. The novel will open your eyes to the high middle ages and the men and women who lived during that remarkably important and turbulent time.

When a passion comes over us, we must respond. It is a sin if we don't. So I guess this has to be my response. There are five things in this world that I live for. One is my wife. Two is cooking. Three is golf. Four are dogs. I am fifth. As I was playing golf with my wife and had our dogs in the cart, while drinking a fifth of booze, I decided to write a book on cooking. Actually, this is a book with my recipes as well as the humorous stories behind the recipes. I have cooked all of my life. My Story Book Cook Book tells just some of the things I have experienced. See what's cooking in my world!
